Case study: connected R&D tool for stables

Agency project around an e-ink display system for horse boxes. It combined research, application design and technical coordination with engineers in China for hardware and firmware integration.

Context

  • The project aimed to display field information directly at box level: care, planning and feeding.
  • The environment involved low-power constraints and a bridge between software, hardware and firmware.
  • Technical coordination happened with engineers in China, which added a real need for alignment and clarification.

Initial problem

  • Make hardware and application components communicate in an exploratory context.
  • Maintain consistency between frontend, backend and e-ink display devices.
  • Structure an R&D project that required progressive technical decisions rather than a fixed specification.

Constraints

  • Work with hardware, firmware and low-power constraints.
  • Coordinate technical exchanges with engineers based in China.
  • Move forward in an exploratory context where choices had to be adjusted progressively.

Solution developed

  • Led the research and development phase to frame interactions between system components.
  • Developed an API proxy to orchestrate modules and make exchanges in the Horsplace ecosystem more reliable.
  • Coordinated technically with engineers in China to support hardware and firmware integration.

Main features

  • API proxy between application modules and display components.
  • Structured exchanges between frontend, backend and firmware.
  • Organisation of care, planning and feeding information.
  • Technical coordination around a low-power e-ink solution.

Result

  • A clearer technical base to make the different parts of the solution work together.
  • A better structured project despite the uncertainty of R&D.
  • Concrete experience on a topic combining physical constraints, application logic and international coordination.
